Sailor-Civilian Teams Enhance Warfighter Effectiveness at New Center

The Wallops Island Engineering and Test Center opened
March 6 during a ceremony at Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC), Wallops Island, Va.

SCSC is a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).

Keynote speaker Vice Adm. Kevin M. McCoy, commander, NAVSEA recognized the hard work and team effort of Navy and contractor personnel in completing the project on schedule.

"It is our job to give our warfighters every tool they need to preserve the strongest Navy the world has ever seen. So thank you for your continued passion, dedication and hard work day in and day out as we continue to build our future fleet," said McCoy.

The Wallops Island Engineering and Test Center joins two other Navy combat systems facilities, the AEGIS Engineering and Training Complex and the Ships Self-Defense Facility, that comprise SCSC on Virginia's Eastern Shore. SCSC supports the warfighter by providing the maritime and littoral environment, operational team, high-fidelity combat systems and platform sensors and the ability to connect with ships, aircraft and other land-based sites for surface Navy testing, training and support of deployed surface combat systems, advanced systems under development, warfare systems integration, interoperability and at-sea testing and exercises.

"As service providers, it is our number-one priority to give warfighters our very best. And the professional and dedicated men and women of Surface Combat Systems Center, Wallops Island, have done just that in more than 25 years of history in this area," said McCoy.
